Feng Shui a nursery can ease the newcomer's adjustment from womb to room. The more room chi has to circulate around a crib, the healthier and more restorative its energy will be. The first step is to conduct an energy cleansing of the room ridding it of past energies and creating a "clean slate." Simply air the space out by leaving the windows open on a sunny day, which brings in the yang energy of sun, light and fresh air. You can also smudge a closed room with a moxibustion stick or incense, remembering to air it out after an hour or two.
The sleeping direction is very important. The goal is to align the bed so that the top or crown of the head is pointed towards one of their good compass directions. Sleeping in the "wisdom" direction will help your child get better grades and improve their attitude about school. In general, place the bed in a command position on the wall opposite the room door but not in direct line of the door.
Appropriate colors for a baby or child's room are soft yin colors such as pistachio or mint, to induce serenity and rest. Bright, strong, yang colors such as red and bright yellow, are not advisable for a child's room because they stimulate rather than calm down the occupant. Such dynamic primary colors are great for a play area, but not for a bedroom. Green represents good health, family life, youth, spring, new beginnings and the element wood. Blue, the color and element of water generates wood, so they go well together.
