There are many aspects to Eight House Feng Shui which has sophisticated formulae for recognising sha (dangerous) qi (Ch'i) from any given direction, observing bad land structure in specific location based on the house trigram and Eight House Water Method to name but a few.

The easy form is calculating your own Life Gua number according to the year you are born thus identifying your four favourable and four unfavourable directions as well as identifying your house trigram and locating the four auspicious and four inauspicious locations within your home.

In Eight House Feng Shui, all houses are divided into 8 palaces (sectors)based on the eight trigrams. These palaces are north, south, east, west, northeast, southeast, southwest and northwest. Each trigram represents a direction in the compass, we have eight directions (45 degree per direction) and henceforth we get eight types of houses.

These eight houses are further categorized into two groups, the East group and the West group.The east group belongs to the water, wood and fire category. The west group belongs to metal and earth category.

Each of the eight magnetic directions holds a different kind of qi (energy) which will influence the respective palace and the person living in it either favourably or unfavourably. In other words, the harmonics of the qi from a given direction can be in harmony or out of tune to the harmonics of your own life Gua.

What is Eight Associate Directions?

Eight Associate Directions is also known as Eight Aspirations or Life Aspirations. It is said that every direction (kua direction) has a suitable life association. For example South-West is direction is said to be good for your marriage and relationship.

What are the uses of Associate Directions?

• Planning of Rooms - Knowing the directions which are good say South-West is marriage or relationship, having a family room there will improve the relationship of the couple and family members.

• Office Planning - Each direction is also associated with a businesses aspect.

Under the Eight House theory, all houses are divided into eight types based on the eight trigrams from the Later Heaven Trigram. Each trigram represents a direction in the compass, we have eight directions (45 degree per direction) and henceforth we get eight types of houses. These eight houses are further categorized into two groups, the East group and the West group. To identify what type of house a person has, a check must be done on the direction of where the front (facing) and the back is (sitting). A house sitting North and facing South is labeled a North or Kan house.

The east group belongs to the water, wood and fire category while the west group belongs to metal and earth category (based on the representing element of the individual houses).

The east group houses are in harmonious relationship with east group houses while the west group houses are in harmonious relationship with the west group houses.

However, the east and west group houses clash with each other because the elements are in a conflicting relationship.
